A symbiotic relationship between the land and its inhabitants forms the basis of this resort’s design story.

Throughout the history of the Grand Strand region, its inhabitants have been deeply connected to the land. From the Waccamaw Indians who relied on the bayous and pine forests for fishing and hunting, to the early settlers who supported their communities by growing indigo and harvesting timber. The tight symbiotic relationship between the land and its inhabitants forms the basis of our design story.

For centuries, the indigenous people have collected the sweet grass that grows in the local estuaries and formed it into baskets and vessels, a craft that helps to forge a strong community bond and identity. Throughout the property, woven natural textures will pay tribute to indigenous weaving, provide a strong sense of place, and add a subtle reference to the merging of cultures and the connections made with loved ones in this unique destination.

Conserving these natural resources is key to the survival of local communities and traditions. Elements throughout the property will highlight the efforts that are being taken to protect the land and its inhabitants.
