This boutique hotel with its storied political past, is now a contemporary reminder of Tallahassee’s rich history.
Originally opened in 1951, the Hotel Duval quickly gained a reputation as the place to see and be seen in Tallahassee, Florida. This long-standing reputation as a place where power players meet continues today. Tales of “back room deals” in a secret lounge accessible only to those with a golden key fueled the hotel’s storied past. The Gold Key Club was the place where legislators in the state capitol gathered for smuggling booze and brokering deals in a dry Leon County. The secret lounge is no more, but a few golden keys are still rumored to exist. Inspired by the Duval’s colorful past, L2 Studios provided a comprehensive renovation of the guestrooms, suites, and public areas. The rich color palette of gold, black, and turquoise pays homage to the Gold Key Club, as well as the oversized golden keys adjacent to the reception desk. Contemporary interpretations of mid-century furniture and photographs of legislators and guests alike gathering in the lobby give a strong sense of history and place.
